An amazing website that features a variety of news articles and while it is a US based service there are many articles that have general relevance. BUT – the mazing thing about this site is that you can adjust the readability of the articles so that the whole class can look at the same item but reddit at their own ability. Awesome for individualising.
Absolutely one of my favourites. Every day there is is a new “Wonder of the Day’ Everything from “Why is cheddar cheese orange?”, “Why do things rot?” and “Do insects work out” to “Why do I burp?”. A great sources of a HUGE amount of information. Best of all – it’s all free and the text can be read to students making it accessible to students of all ages and reading ability.
This app will send you a funky free animated movie every day on a huge range of topics. It also follows up with a quiz that covers both literal and inferential questions.
Find out what happened on this day throughout history or on any selected day. It includes selected day photos, illustrations, music, and speeches. You could even link this to a “Quest of the Day”
Front pages from 100’s of newspapers from around the world that are searchable by location
And one just for fun! A news site filled with stuff from all over the world…just for kids
Trove is truly a treasure trove! It provides “a wealth of information” from the National Library of Australia with more than 250,025,624 Australian and online resources available including books, images, historic newspapers, maps, music, and archives.
Free website that would suit early and middle years students from the Children’s Learning Network …they claim “Our Mission Is To Provide The Highest Quality Educational Activities, Products, Movies, Music, Games, Articles, Text Books, Learning Programs, Lesson Plans, Worksheets, And Distribute Them Completly Free of Charge”
This site is exactly what the title claims. Up to date news items from around the world but provided in three different readability levels. Sensational for differentiation. There are so many uses for this sort of levelled literature and they would be especially suited for guided and reciprocal reading, literature groups or in fact any time you want to build students general knowledge
