Strip Designer and Comic Touch Lite

These are simple to use, free apps to create cartoons. While the tools are simple  you could use them for a the huge variety of tasks – retell a novel, summarise an historic event or explain a scientific phenomenon.

Here is a really informative blog post from MrAndrewsOnline with some inspirational ways you could use Strip Designer

This app is a very simple way to make cartoons. This would be a great tool to use with small children as it actually structures the story arc of Set Up – Conflict – Challenge – Climax – Resolution for you and you can simplify the process for younger children by leaving out the elements you wish.

A lovely simple app for making comics using  a simple drag and drop  system. I love that you can use their library of templates, backgrounds and images to create “layers” and build a much more interesting comic. You can also create a variety of formats of comics – strips, books and even graphic novels…not bad for free!

It might cost $1.99 – but this app has a huge collection of stunning ready-made characters, props and backgrounds that you can edit. There is also the potential for adding voice.
